THE TREATMENT
Botox, Azzalure and Vistabel are approved medicines containing the active substance Botulinum toxin A. There are several products on the market that contain botulinum toxin A and they all work alike. Most often it‘s just called Botox. The medicin is approved in Denmark and has been used since the 1980s for cosmetic treatments. Injection with Botulinumtoxin A is the most common medical cosmetic treatment in the United States, where in 2006 more than 4 million were given treatments with Botox.
Wrinkles in the forehead, at the eyes / crow’s feet and the worry wrinkle between the eyebrows are due to contractions in the facial mimetic muscles. These wrinkles can be reduced with Botulinumtoxin A. Heavy eybrows, heavy muscles in jaw and more can also be treated with it.
At some people, the intense muscle activity that makes the worry wrinkle can cause tension headaches. This can also be reduced by treating the area with Botulinumtoxin A.
Many people are worried about whether they will get an expressionless face if they are treated with Botulinumtoxin but I always say “less is more” so that you will get a younger but natural look where your face appears both natural and vibrant, just with fewer wrinkles.
After the treatment with Botulinumtoxin it starts to work within 1-3 days, and the full effect is achieved after about 14 days. The effect is temporary, approx. 3 – 4 months. With repeated treatments at 12 – 16 week intervals, the effect of Botox can last longer as the muscles in that area become weaker.
